      <description>The Burma Project was established by the Open Society Institute in 1994 with the aim of increasing international awareness of conditions in Burma and helping the country make the transition from a closed to a democratic society. It s website provides information on the aims of the project and its activities. It includes news about Burma, plus links to numerous full-text reports and working papers published by NGOs, human rights bodies and research groups from the mid 1990s to the present day. These provide extensive coverage of the Burmese economy and social conditions, human rights and civil liberties in the region, assessments of the state of democracy and materials relating to Aung San Suu Kyi.

      <description>Web Site consists of annotated links to over 5,000 full-text documents on Burma/Myanmar. Compiled by David Arnott, it is part of the WWW Virtual Library. An excellent resource for all those studying or researching Burma/Myanmar, the site contains a structural overview of the collection, as well as an introduction, and a feedback facility. Works are grouped according to subject, including: labour issues; Aung Sui Kyi; history; politics and government; trafficking; tourism; drugs; and ethnic and minority groups in Burma. The reading room is the reference section of the site, with links to statistics, bibliographies, universities, multilingual books, and images of Burma. For further ease there is also an alphabetical list of subjects. The site also contains the fully searchable reg.burma archive (1993-2001) of the IGC conference as well as the Burma Press Summary complete text archive of abstracts from The Working People's Daily and The New Light of Myanmar between 1987 adn 1996. Many other documents are in the site in French, English and Spanish.
