Department of economic History, Lund University
Tobias Axelsson is a researcher and lecturer at the Department of economic History, Lund University. He has been interested in Asia since a child and focused his university studies on Asia. About ten years ago he started studying Bahasa Indonesia and Asian history in Lund and has not looked back since. He moved from studying just the language to take a greater interest in development issues and found that Indonesia has been the focal point of development studies since the early 1950s. Tobias has continued this tradition and focused his dissertation on the agricultural transformation process in Java under Suharto. It was an opportunity to combine the historical and linguistic skills with an economic approach which he could not resist. Currently he is working on a project focusing on the decentralisation process in Indonesia and its impact on the agricultural sector.
