Soft Power: the Mango Festival and the Festival of India
The Lord of the Universe. Photo by the author.During the weekend just passed both a Pakistani Mango Festival and a Festival of India were arranged in Copenhagen. Stig Toft Madsen visited them both and in this week's blog ponders on the soft power of two quite different cultural events. Soft power and soft power impact are topics that attract growing interest, also in academic circles. The Asian Dynamics Initiative at the University of Copenhagen is presently organizing a major conference on the topic ‘The Soft Power Impact of Asia’ to be held on 17 September 2009. The conference will touch upon a wide range of subjects from popular culture – manga and anime to Hinduism, diplomacy and global financial crisis. The conference will be open to the public.
