Asia brown bag talk: Andreas Møller Mulvad

November 22, 2017 - 12:30-13:30

The Dream of Democracy is not dead in China. Yes, the Xi administration has turned up the pressure on pro-democratic voices with a cocktail of repression and ideological propaganda. Yet, this should not lead us to assume that the Spirit of 1989 is gone forever. The bold prediction of my talk is that we will see a new popular movement for democracy, seriously challenging the monopoly of power of the CCP, before the PRC turns 100 in 2049.

Andreas Møller Mulvad (b. 1983) is Assistant Professor at Department of Business and Politics, Copenhagen Business School. He holds MScs in Sociology and Human Geography and a PhD in Political Science. His work examines the relationship between capitalism, democracy and civil society in an historical comparative perspective. In his PhD he studied legitimation struggles of China’s Communist Party from 2008-2015.

Feel free to bring your own lunch. There will be coffee/tea.
