Book launch: Chinese Heritage in the Making

May 3, 2018 - 15:15-16:30

Welcome to the book launch of Chinese Heritage in the Making: Experiences, Negotiations and Contestations (Amsterdam University Press 2018) edited by Christina Maags and Marina Svensson.

The book consists of an overview of cultural heritage politics in China as well as individual cases studies addressing a variety of topics, actors, and localities. It addresses both the state-led and top-down discourse as well as the multiple ways cultural heritage is lived, debated, performed and consumed in the Chinese society today. It pays particular attention to individual citizens, local communities, and heritage experts and their possibilities for voice and agency. The book also addresses how the heritagisation process affects different groups of people and the role of the Internet and social media in opening up new spaces for engagement with the heritage.

Please register by 26 April.
