Buddhist Modernities Conference
December 3, 2013 - 00:00-December 4, 2013 - 00:00
The project “Buddhist Modernities” is run by members of the Oslo Buddhist Studies Forum, reflecting on Buddhism, and Buddhist histories, in different geographical regions and historical periods.
The working group “Buddhist Modernities” will arrange a conference in Oslo in December 2013, entitled “Buddhist Modernities”.
The topic of the envisaged conference brings together the actual fields of research of the main members of this working group in Oslo, and opens the possibility to include contributions with considerable thematic breadth and historical depth.
In this conference we address the impact of and responses to various aspects of modernity, in all its forms, within different corners of the Buddhist world. Modernity here encompasses all kinds of historical junctures when new ideas, practices and developments impacted on the old and traditional, both contemporary and in the less recent past. In this conference, we aim to bring together a number of very concrete case studies of such junctures as examples that enable us to address much wider issues.
