Call for papers: Asian Studies Days 2014
October 2, 2014 - 00:00-October 3, 2014 - 00:00
The Finnish University Network for Asian Studies together with the School of Management, University of Tampere, will arrange a symposium and a doctoral seminar on Contemporary Asian Studies.
Symposium on the Environment and Sustainable Development in Asia, October 2, 2014, University of Tampere
The title of this symposium refers to the focal consequences of the rapid economic growth in Asia and the resulting environmental degradation, both of which have regional and global dimensions. The pollution of water and air as well as climate change related to urbanization and industrialization affect millions of citizens in Asian nations. Furthermore, increasing energy consumption and the exploitation of natural resources, including tropical forestation, are directly related to the issues of climate change and the loss of biodiversity. In addition to these societal and environmental consequences, these issues of global scale position Asian countries in global environmental governance and politics. The speakers for the symposium will discuss these issues from different societal and political perspectives.
The symposium is free of charge. The participants of the symposium should register on 28th of September 2014 the latest. T
