Call for papers for The 2016 annual meeting of South Asian Anthropologists’ Group (SAAG)

December 11, 2017 - 02:10

Organizers: Lucia Michelutti, Clarinda Still and Ashraf Hoque Department of Anthropology, UCL

This year’s SAAG will have an open theme. We invite anthropological papers covering all regions of South Asia. We particularly encourage submissions from PhD students and/ or those who have recently returned from fieldwork and wish to present ‘work-in-progress’ papers. Any subject will be considered in this call, but on the day itself panels will be organised thematically. SAAG meetings have taken a range of themes over the last 25 years. Papers that reflect the current debates surrounding liberalisation, capitalism, inequality, labour and crime will be welcomed but equally contributors might wish to comment on developments in the field of kinship, politics, religion, ethnicity, class or caste.

Dates: 12th-13th September 2016
Venuethe Department of Anthropology at University College London

This year, we will follow the original SAAG format: papers should be submitted no less than two weeks in advance of the meeting (by 15th August 2016) in order to be pre-circulated to the SAAG participants and discussants. On the day, each paper will be assigned to a discussant who will introduce and comment upon it. The author will then give a short response before the discussion is opened to the floor.
Please contact Lucia ([email protected]) if you would like to attend, act as a discussant, or present a paper.
Those wishing to present a paper should send a title and a brief abstract as soon as possible or by 1st May 2016 at the latest.
