China’s International Commercial Arbitration and International Investment Arbitration – A Key Review Professor Shen Wei

China is now the second largest economy with the largest amount of foreign exchange reserves in the world.China is also the second largest receiving country for foreign direct investments. Disputes in relation toforeign-invested projects are inevitable given China’s transitional stage of its economy and its weaker legalinfrastructure. Therefore solving these disputes between investors as well as between foreign investors andChina is crucial to the foreign investment community. This lecture will cover some key aspects of two majordispute settlement mechanisms available to foreign investors: international commercial arbitration andinternational investment arbitration.
Special Oriental Scholar Professor of Law, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Law School; PhD (London School of Economics and Political Science), LLM (University of Cambridge); Attorney-at-Law, New York,FHKI Arb. Professor Shen is now teaching international investment law, company law, internationaleconomic law and contact law in the law school. Professor Shen’s current research interests includeinternational investment law, corporate governance, financial regulations, and international commercialarbitration.
The presentation will be commented by former Justice at the Supreme Court of Finland Gustaf Möller.
