Insight into the Nordic Region: NordMap and the State of the Nordic Region

March 13, 2017 - 14:30-16:00

Guest Lecture by Julien Grunfelder, Senior Cartographer/GIS Analyst, Nordregio

Brief description of the talk
Julien is going to introduce two products that are developed by Nordregio aiming at gaining insight on socio-economics aspects of the Nordic Region. The first one, State of the Nordic Region, is a bi-annual report and the second, NordMap, is an interactive web-mapping tool. Both include data on socio-demographics indicators at municipal and regional levels in the Nordic Region. Julien will also introduce activities at Nordregio having a link with Asia.

Background information on NordMap and the State of the Nordic Region report
The report is the fourteenth volume in the series “Regional Development in the Nordic countries”. The report draws on the latest available statistics to present an analysis of demographic changes, labour market trends, education, economic performance, and developments in accessibility and infrastructure. For the first time, the report includes a Regional Potential Index, which highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the 74 Nordic Regions in relation to one another, and identifies the regions with the strongest growth potential.
