Japan’s Recovery from the 3-11 Triple Disaster
November 28, 2012 - 09:00-15:30
NTNUs (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) Japan-program invites to the 2012 Japan Seminar.
Following the nuclear accident at Fukushima Dai-ichi Japan has been rethinking its approach to energy security. Before 3-11 Japan relied onnuclear power 2 to supply nearly 30% of its electricity. Although nuclear power enjoyed public support, this coincided with growing unease about safety. Within a few months of3-11, however, public support for nuclear power had turned to opposition, Prime Minister Kan Naoto had declared that Japan should end its reliance on nuclear power, and an ambitious new law promoting renewable energy had been enacted. Yet, questions remain about whether, and if so how and when, Japan will switch from relying on nuclear power to relying on renewables. The second panel of this symposium will address these unresolved issues.
Venue: Rådssalen, Hovedbygningen, campus Gløshaugen, NTNU, Trondheim.
The seminar is free, but registration is necessary.
Registration latest 23.11.2012.
