PhD Research Fellowship in Japanese linguistics at University of Bergen

A PhD fellowship in Japanese linguistics is available at the Department of Foreign Languages starting from August 2014 or as soon as possible.
About the position
The fellowship is awarded for a period of four years, provided progress is satisfactory. The research and educational part of the fellowship comprise 75 % of the total work load, while the last 25 % is dedicated to teaching and/or other obligations. An agreement concerning the actual work load must be made with the department at the time of employment.
The successful applicant will be expected to relocate to the University of Bergen and conform to the regulations that apply to the position.
Qualification requirements
Applicants must meet the formal requirements for admission to the PhD programme at the University of Bergen. The University requires a Norwegian master’s degree (i.e. 3 years bachelor and 2 years master, 300 ECTS altogether) or an equivalent. Applicants must have completed their master’s degree at the time of application. The master’s degree should be within Japanese linguistics or Japanese as a foreign language. However, applicants with other relevant master’s degrees may also be considered. The fellowship’s main goal is to lead to a PhD degree, which qualifies for independent research activities and for other work that requires specific competence.
In the evaluation of the applicants, attention will be given to the quality of the dissertation proposal as well as the grades achieved during his or her MA studies. In addition to this, attention will be given to the dissertation proposal’s relevance to research being done at the Department of Foreign Languages. Prior to the application deadline, the applicant must establish contact with a supervisor at the Department of Foreign Languages.  
Salary will be given in accordance with level 50 (code 1017/frame 20.8) on the Norwegian government salary scale, currently NOK 420.800 gross p.a. following ordinary meriting regulations. A compulsory 2 % contribution to the State Pension Fund (Statens pensjonskasse) will be deducted from gross salary.
