SASNET announces assistant webmaster position to replace Julia Velkova

Julia Velkova, SASNET’s assistant webmaster has been enrolled as a doctoral student at Södertörn University in Huddinge, and will start her studies from 1 September 2012. Her doctoral position is in Media and Communication Studies within the Baltic and East European Graduate School (BEEGS) which in turn is part of the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) at Södertörn University. The preliminary title of her research project is ”Free cultural works in the age of Internet – a new way of creating and communicating art to audiences? – A study of Russian, Finnish and Dutch open-source animation projects”, in which she will study the role that Internet plays in creating and communicating free cultural works, and in particular free/open-source animation films.
As a consequence, SASNET now seeks a new assistant webmaster on a 50 % basis who will be responsible for helping to manage and update the extensive SASNET web portal, currently the largest Nordic website presenting research, collaborations, and culture regarding South Asia at Nordic universities. The website currently has about 11,000 unique visitors per month, and its newsletter is read by nearly 3,000 scholars interested in South Asia worldwide. In addition to updating the website on a daily basis, the successful candidate will assist in the organisation of academic seminars, conferences, and cultural events concerning South Asia arranged by SASNET. The candidate will also be responsible for compiling the monthly SASNET newsletter and assisting with other forms of publicity.
The position is based at Lund University, and offered for the period 20 August to 31 December 2012, with a possibility the position might be extended beyond 2012. Deadline for applications is 1 August 2012.
