SASNET Seminar on Caste-based sexual violence in India

Asha Kowtal, the General Secretary of the AIDMAM, All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch (All India Dalit Women’s Rights Forum), and Thenmozhi Soundararajan, documentary filmer, will give a SASNET lecture on their struggle to demand accountability and justice for the victims of caste-based sexual violence in India.

The AIDMAM, an initiative organised through the NCDHR, National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights, organized the month long Dalit Mahila Swabhiman Yatra (Dalit Women’s March for Self Determination), in early 2014, spanning several States in India to demand accountability and justice for the victims of caste-based sexual violence.  This historic multi-state march intended to put the State, media and society in the dock for the continued impunity of sexual assult and violence the Dalit women is subjected to in India.
The lecture will also tell how caste continues to persist today what it means to fight for social justice, here in Europe as well as abroad.
