Seminar: Branch Campuses and International Higher Education in China
December 7, 2018 - 13:00-17:30
The global knowledge and innovation landscape has changed dramatically during the past 20 years. More knowledge and innovation are generated within the context of international collaboration. In parallel new leading global research, education and innovation milieus have developed in countries and regions outside of the so-called knowledge triangle (Europe, North America and Japan). Especially China has lately emerged as a strong force within the global knowledge landscape. The country is today the second largest producer of scientific articles, and invest more money in higher education, R&D and innovation than the EU countries altogether.
China also has each year around 600 000 outgoing students enrolling in at foreign universities around 400 000 foreign students studying in China. With this changing knowledge landscape, there is also the observation that knowledge producers such as universities in the West are increasingly interested in the tapping into the resources available in China. One of the ways of doing this is through their own establishments in the country.
