Seminar: Indonesia Rising as a Global Economic and Political Player – Prospects and Challenges
October 7, 2013 - 14:00-16:30
Today, Indonesia is emerging as a new global political and economic power, following hot on the heels of the progress made by China and India. In Denmark as well as internationally, Indonesia increasingly receives attention for its impressive economic growth rates as well as its perceived successful democratisation process and political stability. This development seems finally to do justice to Indonesia’s status as the world’s fourth most populous country (240 million inhabitants), and its third largest democracy. However, it also points to an increased need to evaluate Indonesia’s true potential of developing, nourishing and sustaining the upward surge. What are the prospects and pitfalls of sustaining economic growth in the country? What are Indonesia’s comparative advantages and disadvantages as producer, business partner and emerging market? What are the consequences of economic growth for equality, political legitimacy and stability? To what extent can new technologies alleviate Indonesia’s overwhelming problems concerning infrastructure, pollution, and supply of water?
These questions are of concern to many parties in Denmark across the public, private and non-profit sectors. Therefore, this seminar aims to provide insights from two distinguished insiders’ perspectives with an opportunity to meet and exchange for participants.
The event is free of charge but registration is compulsory. Please register with your full name and institution until 4th October 2013 at firstname.lastname@example.org.
