Seminar: Where the Silk Road Economic Belt meets the Polar Silk Road: Nordic prospects, visions, projects

May 22, 2018-May 23, 2018

China’s investments to Nordic countries is a rapidly growing phenomenon. Existing and intensively growing Chinese tourism, growing Chinese investments in enterprises, the recent initiative on Chinese investments in a new railway “Arctic Corridor” towards Arctic all give Nordic Countries a special role in the new geopolitical picture. Processes of globalization and activities in the Arctic are different: they focus on resources, domination, presence, even the ‘new Arctic identity’ concept, which promotes new Arctic multiculturalism. All these processes are very important for Nordic countries. They both provide new ways for attracting investments to the Arctic region and bring changes to the transformation of regional identities, ‘re-conceptualizing the North’. China’s “White Paper” (28.01.2018) brings this process to new geopolitical level. At seminar we will discuss the question: What could be done so, that Polar Silk Road investments could use the experience of Silk Road Economic Belt (investments to countries on its way) and provide a better scenario for Nordic countries; one of security and prosperity?

There is no registration fee.
