The 57th Stockholm Seminar on Japan

October 20, 2017 - 01:29

Dreams of urbanization: The local economic impacts of nuclear power facilities and post-Fukushima regional policy
by Michihito Ando, Research Fellow, National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, Japan

Since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011, it has been widely recognized in Japan that municipalities which have accepted the location of nuclear power facilities (NPFs) receive large employment opportunities and NPF-related fiscal benefits. This seminar provides some empirical evidence of NPFs’ local impacts and its policy implications based on Ando’s recently published article “Dreams of urbanization: Quantitative case studies on the local impacts of nuclear power facilities using the synthetic control method”.

Date and Time: Thursday, May 7, 15:00 – 16:30
Venue: Room 542, 5th floor, Stockholm School of Economics, Bertil Ohlins Gata 5
