The Change in Chinese Foreign Policy under Xi Jinping
September 29, 2016 - 10:00-11:30
The G20 Summit, held on 4 and 5 September 2016 in Hangzhou once more drew worldwide attention to China. As an emerging world power, China’s growing economy and increased productivity have contributed to its ascendancy as a major player in international affairs. While international scholars – in particular Western scholars – have attempted to explain Chinese foreign policy using historical or theoretical evidence, research from a Chinese perspective has been less often. This lecture by Professor Hao Yufan will examine the unique challenges China faces as it adapts to a role as a major world power, and analyse how China’s international relationships may shape the global landscape of the twenty-first century, especially after President Xi Jinping took power in 2013.
