Uppsala seminar on Conducting Elections in a Plural Democracy

On Friday, 11 April 2014 the Forum for South Asia Studies (FSAS) at Uppsala University is hosting a talk by Dr S.Y. Qureishi (photo), the former election commissioner of India, at Uppsala University, room Eva Netzeliussalen at Blåsenhus. Dr Qureishi will talk about “Conducting Elections in a Plural Democracy”, and be joined by Ambassador Maria Leissner, Secretary General at Community of Democracies.

It will be the largest election in the world as 814.5 million people will cast their vote in the India general election between 7 April and 12 May. To mark the occasion the Forum for South Asia Studies at Uppsala University is organizing in cooperation with the Indian Embassy in Sweden, which are inviting guests for this special event.

Dr S.Y. Qureishi, is the former chief election commissioner of the Republic of India and a Member of the Board of Advisors of the International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IIDEA). Dr Qureishi, will present his remarks on “Conducting Elections in a Plural Democracy” at Friday, 11 April 2014. He will be joined by Ambassador Maria Leissner. Leissner is Secretary General at Community of Democracies since 2012. Professor Ashok Swain, Department of Peace and Conflict Research, will lead the discussion.
