Position: Assistant Professor of Asian Studies, Århus University
The Department of Culture and Society at Aarhus University invites applications for the position of assistant professor of Asian Studies.
The assistant professorship is a full time position and it begins on 1. January 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter
We are particularly interested in a candidate with a strong research focus on political relations in Asia. We are interested in applicants whose centre of research lies on Japan and/or China, their mutual relations within Asia or between Asia and Europe. The command of Japanese and/or Chinese is a requirement. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the development of research and teaching on contemporary Japan/China within Asia in a cross-disciplinary field of politics, sociology and contemporary history. We are seeking a dedicated candidate who will contribute to a broad spectrum of Aarhus Universitys core activities in the areas of education and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to contribute actively to departments academic environment. The position also requires:
Interest in interdisciplinary research cooperation especially with relevant areas at the School of Business and Social Sciences.
The ability to initiate and participate in collaborative projects with other research and teaching programs at Aarhus University and in international contexts.
Interest in the application of innovative teaching methods, such as new forms of team teaching within the section of Asian Studies and collaborative student-involvement.
Potential for obtaining external research funding.
Interest in working with Ph.D. students (talent development)
Interest in knowledge exchange.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent qualification in a field relevant to the described research area, and a very good command of Japanese and/or Chinese language that enables her/him to teach and conduct research based on original language source material.
Areas of special research interest to the department would be interregional and global mobility, environmental politics or inter-Asian cultural relationships.
