HathiTrust is a not-for-profit collaborative of academic and research libraries with 210 member libraries mainly in the US. The collection mirrors the research library collections which are preserved as digitized items. HathiTrust offers reading access to the fullest extent allowable by U.S. copyright law. The contents are primarily retrospective as it is digitized from prints. The metadata comes from the libraries’ cataloging of the print material. The catalog is uneven, incomplete with many gaps.
There are a total of 17+ million volumes in 455 languages with 8,42 million titles and 472,024 serial titles. 6.7 million volumes or 39% are open for reading, i e the material is in the public domain or CC-licensed. The Japanese collection includes 550,ooo individual volumes with 240,000 titles and 15,000 serials. 78,000 volumes are open for reading to the US audiences, from the 14th century to the 21st.
Advanced search allows you to search by a wide range of languages. original format as well as normal search fields of date of publication, title, author etc and the option to only search for material available in full text.
