Afghanistan Week 2014

March 17, 2014 - 00:00-March 23, 2014 - 00:00

Afghanistan is at a crossroad. Presidential elections will be held in April. By the end of the year, most of the international military forces will have left. Norway’s military involvement in Afghanistan has lasted for years, and the Norwegian government has committed to a high level of civilian aid in the years to come.
Norway’s involvement, as well as the situation in Afghanistan, calls for public debate on Norway’s role, and on Afghanistan’s future. What is the state of the Afghanistan we’re leaving? Did we promise what we preached? What do we do in the years ahead? We challenge Norwegian experts, politicians and Afghans, and invite you to a whole week with Afghanistan on the agenda.
From 17- 23 March, we organise debates, seminars and cultural events throughout Norway. Researchers, Norwegian organisations working on and in Afghanistan, and Afghan cultural societies are among the main contributors.
The Norwegian Afghanistan Committee is the initiator and coordinator of the Afghanistan Week. The most central contributors are the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI). The Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue, the Norwegian Refugee Council, FOKUS and Norwegian Church Aid also contribute to the programme. The Afghanistan Week has received funding from the Freedom of Expression Foundation (Fritt Ord) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
Watch out for the programme for the Afghanistan Week, which will soon be available at:
