After deportation: The Continued Journey of Rejected Afghan Asylum Seekers
November 5, 2018 - 14:00-16:00
Event Navigation
What happens to rejected asylum seekers after deportation? Or more generally, what do we know about post-deportation outcomes? Although there is a growing literature on detention and deportation, academic research on post-deportation is scarce. Shahram Khosravi’s previous research on irregular migration in Sweden brings out the significance of analyzing what happens after deportation. Based on the experiences of Afghans deported from Sweden, he argues that deportation, rather than being the end of migratory adventure, becomes just another phase of their ‘deportspora’, in which they are exposed to a continuum of expulsion.
