China Goes Global

March 13, 2013 - 17:00-18:30

The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) invites to a seminar about the new role of China with Professor David Shambaugh, internationally recognized author and authority on contemporary China and the international relations of Asia.

At the seminar, Professor Shambaugh will present his new book China Goes Global, in which he describes China’s growing prominence on the international stage. China’s expanding economic power has allowed the country to extend its reach virtually everywhere, from mineral mines in Africa to currency markets in the West, oil fields in the Middle East, agribusiness in Latin America, and factories of East Asia.

The manifestations of China’s global presence can be seen in its growing military power, its commercial importance, its increasing cultural influence, diplomatic activity and its new prominence in global governance institutions. What is China’s new global role? And what is the impact of its growing influence?

David Shambaugh, Professor at George Washington University and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Comments by: Dr. Astrid Nordin, Lecturer at Lancaster University.
