China’s path of modernization has a major impact on its foreign policy and strategy. With China’s reform and opening-up, Chinese diplomacy experienced the first major change. After the 18th National CCP Congress, Chinese diplomacy experienced the second major change, which is the change towards President Xi’s diplomacy for the new era. The lecture will focus on the primary elements of Xi’s diplomatic strategies for the purpose of seeking dignity.
This lecture by renowned Chinese foreign policy expert Professor Canrong Jin will argue that China is an industrial country today, but the core national interests and fundamental diplomatic principles remain unchanged. The lecture will also discuss the future challenges of Chinese diplomacy.
Canrong Jin is Professor and Deputy Dean at the School of International Studies in China Renmin University. His studies focus on US political system and political culture, US foreign policy, China-US relations and relations among major powers, and China’s foreign policy. Professor Jin is the author of more than 100 academic papers, over 500 articles, 7 books and 5 translated books. His main publications include “Multilateralism and Cooperation among East Asian Countries”, “Views from Chinese Scholars on Power Strategy”, etc., and hundreds of academic articles and reviews. He is also vice president of China National Association for International Studies, and research fellow at the Research Office of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Standing Councilor of the China Reform Forum.
