CRIC research seminar: At War for Peace w. Helga Þórólfsdóttir
June 16, 2014 - 13:30-15:00
The Centre for Resolution of International Conflicts (CRIC) invites to a research seminar with Helga Þórólfsdóttir who is visiting researcher at CRIC from University of Iceland.
The research seminar will revolve around Helga’s paper which is a presentation of an ongoing PhD study on how Iceland’s participation in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) peace operation in Afghanistan has been officially explained and individually experienced. The purpose of the paper is to study how stories we tell of who we are and who we are not as Westerners and ´who the others are’ (Yuval-Davis, 2010), enable the use military force in the name of peace. Attention is paid to how these stories relate to Western identity narratives and discourses of militarism.
About research seminars
The research seminar is a forum for academic debate, organized around the paper and is conducted on the assumption that the paper has been read by participants.
