In these times, political and religious radicalization dominates the public sphere and especially the discourse in the domain of the media. The general impression is that different religious groups, clergy and congregations rather talk about each other instead of with each other and thereby increase the division in society. Therefore, inter-faith dialogue and initiatives of goodwill are becoming more and more important – it is crucial to listen to the open, liberal and progressive religious voices who engage themselves in bridging the divide between different religions and their followers.
This open seminar brings about a unique opportunity: high-level representatives from various organizations that work on inter-religious dialogue in Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, are invited to Copenhagen and will discuss issues of inter-faith dimension, such as tolerance, common frames of reference for discourse and new visions and initiatives for the co-existence of religions and progress in inter-faith collaboration. Members from the Copenhagen-based organization Tro i harmoni (Faith in Harmony) are invited along for partnering the event and share from their experiences in Denmark and engage in a dialogue with their Indonesian counterparts.
The Indonesian delegation is composed of high-level representatives, such as the Grand Imam from the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Alissa Qotrunnada Munawaroh Wahid, the daughter of former President Abdurrahman Wahid, and Sandra Hamid, Director of the Jakarta-based Asia Foundation. Tro i harmoni’s chairwoman Anna Eskelund will be contributing from the Danish side together with board member Fatima Osborne who will be moderating the dialogue jointly with Mark P.Stadler, PhD Fellow in Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Copenhagen with research background in Islam in Indonesia.
All are welcome to attend the dialogue! Religious representatives and civil society from Denmark are encouraged to join and contribute during the open Q&A session.
