The School of Asian Languages at Vilnius University is organising Level 2 Karaim language courses!
From January 24th they will organize the second level of online Karaim language courses (in English), which is best suited for those who have already passed the first level courses or already have some fundamental Karaim language skills.
The courses (40 academic hours, 20 lectures) will take place every Tuesday and Thursday 6.00–7.30 PM EET (Lithuanian time). Courses fee is 200 Euros with 10% discount for students. Register to the courses by writing an e-mail with your name and surname to the administrator of the School of Asian Languages Tomas Bedulskij (tomas.[email protected]).
Courses will be taught by Diana Lavrinovič – an indigenous speaker, the Karaim language researcher and a teacher, an English language teacher by profession. She is one of the authors of the Karaim language coursebook “100 Karaim language lessons. Trakai dialect”.
The Karaim language Trakai dialect is one of the Turkic languages. The closest relative to Karaim are the Karachay-Balkar, Kumyk, Crimean Tatar languages, and the ancient Cuman language. Karaim language is spoken by only a handful of speakers at present – mostly by Karaim community in Lithuania.
