Regime Change, Civil Society and Regional Integration

December 6, 2012 - 14:00-16:00

How are regime transitions and changing political space on the national level related to civil society engagement with ASEAN? Can civil society movements and organizations contribute to a democratization of regional governance in Southeast Asia?

Prof. Anders Uhlin
Anders Uhlin is Professor of Political Science at Lund University. He is currently working on a project on “Civil Society and the Liberalization of Regional Governance in Southeast Asia”.

The seminar series East and Southeast Asian Transformations covers current transformations in the region. During 2012 and 2013 the Forum for Asian Studies welcomes a host of prominent researchers in the field of social science who will address a variety of themes: political changes with a specific focus on discussing the simultaneous trends of democratization and democratic backlash in Southeast Asia, the changing patterns of conflicts in the region, as well as the new challenges to regional and global governance.

Location: Room F347, Department of Political Science, Stockholm University
