I – Danish-Chinese Police Cooperation
II – Lecture and Book Presentation on “Not The Slightest Chance”
By Frode Z. Olsen, police attaché 2008 to 2013 at the Embassy of Denmark in Beijing, China
Part I:
It is an elementary police experience that criminals are innovative and among the first to take advantage of new opportunities. This observation has been confirmed as the Danish-Chinese relations have expanded significantly over the past 2-3 decades – whether in trade, tourism, culture, education or in academic exchange programs. Among the millions of business transactions and meetings between people, a certain number of individuals will inevitably be hurt, cheated or find themselves entangled in problems which require police involvement and international police cooperation. How to do this. What are the challenges and the opportunities?

Part II:
“IKKE EN JORDISK CHANCE” (Not The Slightest Chance) is the title of a documentary book about a handful of young Danish business men, who in 1941 worked for the East Asiatic Company, Nordic Feather Works or the Great Northern Telegraph Company in Hong Kong. They volunteered into a skeleton defence as the British crown colony on 8 December 1941 was attacked by a huge Japanese military force. Anyone knew it could never go well. Who were the men, why did they join the battle and what happened?
The lecture will include Frode Z. Olsen’s personal reflections working as a foreigner in China – now as well as in past times. The lecture will be followed by a Book Launch and Reception.
