Visualizing Asian Cities Photo Exhibition
April 8, 2019 - 15:00-17:00
Event Navigation
Asian cities are vibrant and diverse places that reflect unique histories at the same time as they are undergoing rapid changes. The cities are however often depicted in rather stereotypical fashion in media so the challenge was to explore and visualize cities through images that show complexities, contradictions, and changes.
The photographs were selected in the following categories:
Traditions and heritage
Participants were invited to explore and visualize different aspects of history, traditions, and heritage sites in the city.
Hidden places
Participants were invited to explore and visualize hidden places that reveal new things about the city and contrast or challenge images of sites, buildings and places that are used in city and tourism branding
Dreams and creativity
Participants were invited to explore and visualize the dreams that draw people to the city, and creative spaces and activities in the city.
At the vernissage Professor Marina Svensson will give a short talk on photography in Asia and Professor Christer Lindberg will give a short talk on photography and anthropology.
The exhibition will be open daily (during the Asia Library opening hours) until 31 May.
Welcome!
