Webinar: China and South America Relationships and the Post Covid-19 Scenarios: An IPE Approach
July 29, 2020 - 09:00-10:00
A part of the Global Lecture Series on China Economic Studies
The lecture will analyze the relations between China and South America from an International Political Economy perspective and through a historical structural methodology, which includes a long-term approach as an introduction.
Therefore, we will review a period that includes the way in which South America and China were incorporated to the International System by the European Powers – until the resurgence of China, and the impacts in South America due to the change in the international financial system (1980s – early 2000s)
From there on, the speech will focus on the relationship from 2002 to 2019; but we will also mention some cooperative elements during the Covid-19 crisis in South America.
Finally, from a projective point of view, the lecture will propose some challenges for the recovery of South America post Covid-19, and how this can be an opportunity to positively impact the Latin America and Caribbean region, but also for China and for the global economy as a whole.
