Where the Silk Road Economic Belt meets the Polar Silk Road: Nordic prospects, visions, projects

May 23, 2018-May 24, 2018

First Seminar by Eurasian Studies Network

23-25.05.2018 at University of Eastern Finland Joensuu Campus

China’s investments to Nordic countries is a rapidly growing phenomenon. Existing and intensively growing Chinese tourism, growing Chinese investments in enterprises, the recent initiative on Chinese investments in a new railway “Arctic Corridor” towards Arctic all give Nordic Countries a special role in the new geopolitical picture. China’s “White Paper” (28.01.2018) brings this process to new geopolitical level. At seminar we will discuss the question: What could be done so, that Polar Silk Road investments could use the experience of Silk Road Economic Belt (investments to countries on its way) and provide a better scenario for Nordic countries; one of security and prosperity? However, seminar discussion is not limited only to China issues. Instead, it brings together scholars, interested in Nordic networking and cooperation.
